Edgemont
Medical Weight Management
At Edgemont Weight Management Clinic, medical weight management is delivered through a structured, clinically supervised approach that may include prescription-supported therapy (such as GLP-1 receptor agonists), medically supervised meal replacement programs (such as Optifast®), or a combination of strategies when appropriate. These approaches work through different mechanisms and are selected based on individual health needs, safety considerations, and long-term goals. No single method is suitable for everyone, and all treatment decisions are made following a comprehensive clinical assessment.
01
GLP-1 Supported Medical Weight Management
GLP-1 (glucagon-like peptide-1) receptor agonists are prescription medications that act on hormonal pathways involved in appetite regulation, satiety, and blood glucose control.

Patients may recognize brand names such as Ozempic®, Wegovy®, Mounjaro®, or Zepbound®. These medications are not interchangeable, are not appropriate for every patient, and must be assessed and prescribed by a licensed healthcare professional.

At Edgemont Weight Management Clinic:
-
GLP-1 therapy is never initiated without a clinical assessment
-
It is used as one component of a broader medical weight management plan
-
Ongoing monitoring and follow-up are required
-
Medications are not positioned as cosmetic, rapid, or guaranteed solutions
GLP-1–supported care may be considered for adults who:
-
Have a body mass index (BMI) ≥30 kg/m², or
-
Have a BMI ≥27 kg/m² with weight-related health conditions such as hypertension, dyslipidemia, or prediabetes

Eligibility is determined through professional assessment and clinical judgment.
02
Optifast® Supported Medical Weight Management
Optifast® is a nutritionally complete, medically formulated meal replacement program that may be used as part of a time-limited, medically supervised dietary phase.

Because this approach involves significant caloric restriction, clinical oversight is essential.

At Edgemont Weight Management Clinic:
-
Optifast® is never started without assessment
-
It is not appropriate for every patient
-
It is not used as a permanent or standalone solution
-
It is always paired with follow-up and structured transition planning back to regular nutrition

Optifast®-supported care may be considered for adults who:
-
Have obesity or significant weight-related health risks
-
Have not achieved adequate results with lifestyle-based approaches alone
-
Require a highly structured dietary intervention under medical supervision

All use of Optifast® occurs within a broader medical weight management plan focused on safety and sustainability.
